        On Saturday, 9 October 1965, PFC Bermingham, age 22, of  Gordon, Nebraska, was killed in a vehicle crash. He was part of the two jeep convoy escort guarding a shipment of tanks traveling from Saigon to Bien Hoa.

        On the return trip in the darkness, the jeep he was a passenger in struck a disabled Vietnamese civilian truck parked along the side of the roadway. The driver survived and PFC Bermingham died from injuries received from the crash.
